CANDY AND HER COUSINS
Darling art by "B. Voss" (Elizabeth Gartrell Voss) with colorful old-style wrap-around dresses. Cute bedroom scene, 4 dolls, plus cats and dogs. The dolls are the same as a book called Linda Lou and Cindy Sue, of 1954, but covers and inside scenes are different.
You could replicate the original pocket-folder set, by cutting a slit in each page of the bedroom scene, then glue all around the edges and paste to the backs of the front covers. Then if you cut the clothes and dolls you have pockets to keep them in. Slit the bed between the bedposts on the straight line. Slit the dresser right at the line where the shelves meet the dresser top.
The artist signature was at first puzzling because it is clearly a "B" for the first initial...but the data we have on the artist as well as other signatures seen on paper dolls, are "E.A." Voss. Turns out, E. is for Elizabeth so the B would be for Beth or Betty, either of which is a nick-name for Elizabeth. And her maiden name was Gartrell...which is a signature we see sometimes as "B. Gartrell, and sometimes as "A. Gartrell"
This book has double covers plus 2 doll pages, making SIX pages on coverstock, and EIGHT pages of clever clothes.
This is a stapled BOOK. We are delighted to present this vintage restored/reprinted "perfect bound" (stapled) book. 11”x17" sheets are printed in permanent laser colors on top grade papers, folded and stapled to a finished size of 8.5x11. Smaller than the originally published size. Costume pages are on Bright white archival 32# laser paper. Covers are on archival 80# laser cover stock paper. These papers are a dream to cut...nice clean edges, no popping of inks, very smooth and fun to handle. Stored in a crystal clear archival protective seal top bag to keep it nice and clean.
