TEEN FASHIONS of the 1940s
FMN Make-Over Book by Judy M Johnson
These fashions are modified from catalogues of the mid 1940s to fit three pretty dolls from a wartime paper doll book. The book I have has these great covers and really bad clothes on cheap paper. So instead of wasting the lovely cover art (obviously painted by a different artist than the one who did the costumes) Judy scanned pages from her old catalogue collection, and made the outfits fit the girls; Flo, Helen, and Linnea.
Those names, by the way, are ladies in Judy's childhood neighborhood. Flo was her aunt across the road; Linnea lived down the road, and Helen is her mom. The little page decorations are late 40s decals in a style Judy calls Deco Kitsch, a later interpretation of the Art Deco movement of the 30s...still having the solid color, hard-edged design with the flowing shapes that identified "Deco."
This is a book that underwent many manifestation: 1945 "Clothes Crazy"; 1946 "College Girls"; and 1961 "Dolls." The first one has the same dolls. The second two had the same clothes as the first one. The version I have has the very same dolls as "Clothes Crazy" but not the same clothes at all.
This is a stapled BOOK. We are delighted to present this vintage restored/reprinted "perfect bound" (stapled) book from Forget-me-Not Publishing (FMN). These are 11”x17" sheets printed in permanent laser colors, on top grade papers, folded and stapled to a finished size of 8.5x11. Costume pages are on Bright white archival 32# laser paper. Covers are on archival 80# laser cover stock paper. These papers are a dream to cut...nice clean edges, no popping of inks, very smooth and fun to handle. We slip the book into a crystal clear archival protective Mylar sleeve to keep it nice and clean.
