"BEAUTIFUL GIRLS" Models for Chinese
Advertising Posters of the 1920s-1930s
For Paper Crafting and Reference; 3 PAGES!
I recently bought a collection of images of Chinese and Japanese vintage advertising, which I have always loved. It's so nice that I have this way to share these wonderful art pieces with you via the collections on these pages.
The girls' images may have advertised fabrics, cigarettes, beer, bug killer, rubber, shoes, cosmetics, pharmeceuticals, Cod Liver Oil, Insurance, Palmolive soap, department stores, tea, Eveready Batteries, Records, Jewelry, Trading Company, and some were famous movie and stage stars. All of these are among the collections I have on this site.
There's a book I read that had "Beautiful Girls" in the title, by a Chinese woman who lived through the terrible times of the Chinese "Cultural" Revolution. As she and her sister were both lovely gals, they were able to supplement the family income by working as models. It was an acceptable way for a proper young lady to work, and they were known as "Beautiful Girls." They had to buy their own expensive clothes, as the best dressed models got the most work with the better paying artists. They rarely knew where their images would turn up. Sometimes on advertising or calendars, and sometimes on political propaganda...which could get them and their family into trouble with the opposite factions.
The posters and ads here are from 1918 into the later 30s. There will be no watermarks on your copies of course.
This collection consists of 3 pages, 8.5" x 11" each, laser printed on archival 80# satin-finish coverstock.
