Restored Newspaper Paper Dolls
from the Boston Sunday Post
"Samantha Enjoys Thanksgiving"
By Lucy Eleanor Leary
November 21, 1948
These beautifully drawn paper dolls were in weekly editions of the Boston Sunday Post. The were originally rather large, spreading across about 1/3 of a bottom section of the page. I have rearranged the components to fit the format of two 8.5" x 11" pages. This one is adapted from several original black and white ink drawings by Miss Leary, I bought a few years ago. They were mostly undated...as was this one. But it may be 1952 if I'm reading the coding right.
I have carefully cleaned up the yellowish background, the loose sketchy-ness of inking, and underlying pencil lines, then added layers of color to all the components and patterns. So these are my colors; not the ones you would find if you should happen to see a published version of this paper doll. I have also rearranged the wide panel into two pages, keeping the size quite close to the original drawing...which would have been larger than the final printed-in-the-newspaper product.
All archival; laser printed on 2 pages of 80# coverstock, 8.5" x 11" and stored in a crystal clear seal-top bag.
