Restored Newspaper Paper Dolls
from the Boston Sunday Post
"Audrey Elizabeth Brown
"and "Tillie and Millie"
By Lucy Eleanor Leary
These nicely drawn paper dolls used to be in the weekly editions of the Boston Sunday Post. The were originally rather large, spreading across about 1/3 of a bottom section of the page. I have rearranged the components to fit the format of an 8.5" x 11" page. These both have a Birthday theme.
"Restoring" newsprint art is much more than restoring...it's improving! Newspaper printing is rough, sloppy, and needs a great deal of work to make them sharp, bright and clean.
These two were a little less work as they are both cleaned up from Artist's Proofs, with no printing on the backs, and not from large-run news printings.
This pair are: Twins, Tillie and Millie are celebrating their birthday
Audrey Elizabeth Brown is celebrating her third birthday.
No date was on these proofs, but I estimate them to be mid to late 1940s.
Each are all archival; laser printed on 80# coverstock, 8.5" x 11" and stored in a crystal clear seal-top bag.
