Mama and Me
A Paper Doll Scrapbook of the 1920s
by Judy M Johnson
This has been a fun project, several years in the making. It was a proposal to Dover a few years ago, with no response at all. So I have pulled it up and finished it. And a fun project it is too!
Derived, restyled, repainted....from images of the mid 1920s: magazines, fashion pages, photos, clip art, scrap, and imagination, comes little Juliana Anderson and her family. I have formatted the book as if it's a journaling scrapbook of an eight year old girl. In her family are Mama, Papa, and little brother, Alcott. There are two dolls, Mama and Anna (Juliana) and mentions (with images) of Papa and Alcott. The clothes and accessories tell the story of this little girl's life in the mid 1920s (1924-26) along with Juliana's own child-like words.
Anna tells of her grandparents, of her school, the new inside bathroom, their autumn festival, Christmas, a costume party, her birthday, her mama's sewing, a French milliner in town, and more.
It's a fun little read, as well as a delightul paper doll book.
15 outfits for Anna, 9 for mama (with 10 hats!) And lots of notes and pictures to tell Anna's story.
Laser printed on top grade archival papers, folded and stapled book, finished size, 8.5"x11", and stored in a crystal clear Mylar seal-top bag. Signed.
